Jack & Susan retired to the area in 2004. Jack is a retired Submariner and Susan a retired teacher. They have been “tinkering” with crafts and word-working for the past 45 years. In the early 2000’s, they were owners of a Crafts store and enjoyed making various items to sell.
Susan enjoys every aspect of working with gourds; from talking with gourd farmers to choosing, cleaning and preparing them for use. She most enjoys enhancing the natural beauty of the gourd and using its shape to dictate its final design. She uses leather dyes and waxes to color and finish the gourds.
Jack works with Susan on gourds and has “piddled” in wood-working since his Dad got him interested in it in High School. He has recently taken up Scroll Sawing and has begun to make various items for toys, puzzles and Christmas Ornaments. His newest project is “Intarsia”, which is cutting various pieces of wood to form a three dimensional project.
