Rob and Beth Mangum met as sophomore and freshman at North Carolina State University School of Design (now the College of Art and Design) where Rob studied graphics and illustration, and Beth focused on fibers and surface design.
Rob began making pottery in his parents' studio in the 70s. In 1989, he and Beth formed their pottery studio after they graduated from Design School. Rob went on to receive a MFA from Indiana University. They have been creating work out of their Weaverville studio since 1998.
While maintaining a strong connection to the folk tradition of craft, Rob and Beth strive to find the union between heritage and contemporary design. Their creative process is guided by the clay itself, through years of studying the nature of the materials. They are inspired by the organic and structural aspects of nature, as well as the continuing evolution of our culture.
